$1 Invention

Below is my $1 invention! You know the little plastic tube inside of your paper towel roll? Well, I discovered that it can also be used for another purpose...

Simply snip one end of the tube using a pair of scissors...make sure it is the end of the tube that is slightly larger:
Next, take the tube apart and fill the inside with frosting:
Go ahead and write on top of a cake or decorate a cookie with the newly invented icing tube!

Take a peek at the cakes I have decorated in the slideshow now appearing at the top right of my blog! (Okay, so I didn't decorate all of these cakes with this toilet-paper-holder-turned-decorating-device but perhaps if I am in a pinch in the future, it just might come in handy!)

What an invention!! You should consider a patent.

Hi Megan,

Your dollar invention is excellent. I liked how you used your cake decorating talent to come up with an invention. Your invention covers many UDL principles, but the one that sticks out the most is "Simple and Intuitive". Your invention is not difficult to construct and is easy to use. Cake decorators would be really happy to know about this invention. Also, I am sure your students are going to really enjoy all the cakes you bake and decorate for them:)

Megan, you are a multiple talented person! What are beautiful cakes you have baked! Especially I love the cake, which looks like a real painting of the impressionist. Your $ 1 invention is very unique. I agree with Rosemary that you should take a patent.

This is great! I think it is so creative and very clever. It also makes a lot of sense, since using a plastic bag makes the frosting too warm. I think that using this device would b a good way for student to work on fine motor and also self control. They have to learn to control their impulses and not push all of the frosting out at the ame time. Who knew a toilet paper holder could be used as a kitchen utensil!

What I love most about your invention is not that it is easy to use in a bind (although I imagine some disinfecting would need to take place first ;)) but that it also makes the process of cake decorating more accessible to those with fine motor difficulties. It is larger than most icing decorators and also only requires the pushing down of the inside tube with one hand while the other hand holds and slightly moves the whole thing. great idea and truly follows the prinicples of UD.
